Notes
Standing near the Southeast corner of the bridge cast toward the third or fourth cement pillar. The bluegills his as soon as the bobber hit the water. The locals would fish with small minnows but the bait shop was out. A gulp alive frey would work well as well as a cubby.
The fish are very concentrated in a specific area. They are in the ripples about 20 feet below the dam. They are in the same location below the Necedah dam. They are probably in the same type of water below the wing dams on the Mississippi. This is probably why August is the most productive month below the wing dams. The weather is still August weather. The water is warm and the fish probably need the additional oxygen and perhaps moving water.

Pool 9 is about as low as it ever gets right now, concentrating fish and making navigation in parts of running sloughs questionable. Went out "fun fishing" this morning and caught my standard 20 bass on the rocks using Bomber cranks and Mepps spinners. Nothing big. Several were legal. Did some fishing above Twin Island and saw THREE bass boats whack the rocks on the first dam up in just over an hour. Real purpose of this mission was to get on top of panfish for a couple of upcoming trips (Note to Bosman: Crappies still hanging where you caught them a couple weeks ago...nice gills there too). Would have caught more crappies if I had some minnows or waxies, but did manage to catch a few on feather jigs. Bluegills were hammering a tiny piece of crawler on a little feather jig. Kept eight nice ones for supper. Both gills and crappies were located over deep water snags, about 4-8 feet down over 16-22 fow. My "go to
" rig is a 10' Crappie Commander rod with an ice fishing spring bobber on the end. I essentially just raise and lower the bait/lure slowly looking for movement of the spring bobber or feeling for a bite with my index finger on top of the rod. Essentially this is a perfectly vertical "ice fishing" presentation. You're fishing right in the jungle and will get snagged. 10 lb. Fireline and a light wire hook minimize down time re-tying.
