Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

I checked the stream levels early this morning and decided that Spring Creek was at a really good level for spin fishing. I also figured it would be at least a bit cloudy because of all the recent rain we had. The water level was up a bit, so I thought I would fish one of the sections that gets too low for good spin fishing every summer. I fished the Rock Road section above the Benner Springs hacthery.

I got to the parking area at the hacthery bridge about 7:00 and there was already an SUV with a wild trout plate on it parked there. I figured it could be a fly-guy and I would just be able to walk around him, so I got my gear on and hiked downstream on the trail until I was about even with the buildings at the hatchery. I never saw the other guy, I didn't see in the stream and didn't run into him at all when I was fishing back to the parking lot. His SUV was still there, so I don't have a clue as to what happened to him. I didn't see him upstream from the parking area as aI drove away, so who knows. It's possible that I missed him upstream, but I don't think I missed him on the section I fished.

I had a good morning and caught 25 brown trout in about three hours of fishing. However, I didn't catch any big trout and I caught a bunch of trout that were 7-8-9 inches long. The biggest fish I caught this morning were about four 12 inch trout. If I remember correctly, I often catch smaller trout in this particular section of Spring.

One of these mornings, I'm going to fish Spring downstream from Bellefonte, some where around the area where they removed that old dam. I have a feeling that there could be some really big trout in that section. Of course the problem with those sections is that they are pretty easy to access and probably really get fished hard. I guess I'll just have to see for myself.
