Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

I fished the LJ this morning in the Barree Gorge section. I parked in the parking area for the Rothrock forest and walked back the trail until I got back to the second RR bridge above the parking area. I then fished until I was at the end of the rapids above the big island that is upstream from that second RR bridge. There wasn't anyone in the parking area when i got there and only an older couple of fly-fisherpersons, husband and wife, getting ready to fish when I got back to my truck and ate my lunch. That's fairly unusual for a day in June in that section of the LJ.

I had a good morning, nice weather, and caught 22 fish, 21 brown trout , and one little bluegill. I don't catch many bluegills on the LJ, at least not in that section or actually in any section that I normally fish.

On my way back toward Petersburg about 11:30 or so I saw a lot of guys fishing the LJ from Barree past the church camp and RV park. There were a couple of cars at the bridges in Barree, but once I got past the camp the LJ was full of fly-guys. There must have been ten guys fishing that section of the stream. The pull-off by the state forest road had six or seven vehicles parked around it. Maybe something was hatching, but you couldn't prove it by me. Of course most of the time I fished this morning it was fairly cool. When I started the water was warmer than the air temperature by about seven degrees or so.

All in all a great day to be on the LJ!
