Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

I fished the Allison road section of the LJ behind Petersburg this morning. That's one of the lower sections of the LJ and one of the bigger sections of the stream. I fished the part of the stream that runs along the steep bank on the left side of Allison road. I have had sucess catching some big fish in that section over the years and usually there isn't much competition because the bank is fairly steep and difficult to get down.

I didn't have a very good morning number wise, but I did catch a couple of nice trout. I only caught 10 fish in three hours and only eight of them were trout. The first fish I caught was a 13 inch fall fish and then I caught a 14 inch brownie, followed by a 13 inch small mouth bass. All of them were nice fish. Then I caught two brown trout in the 10-12 inch range, then three that were only 8-9 inches. By this time I was not very far downstream from the RR bridge at the end of Allison road and there was a fly-guy fishing around the bridge, so I figured a few more casts and I would quit for the morning. I was walking up the middle of the stream and it's fairly wide in that entire section, so I was casting to my right, then my left, then up the middle ahead of where I was wading. I cast to my right toward the far bank and hit a big trout. It was a really nice 17 inch brown. The next cast was to the bank closest to the road and I hit another big trout. It was only a 15 inch trout. It's good I decided to try a few more casts before I walked back to the truck. Who would have guessed that I would catch two big trout on the last two casts of the morning.

Now I have to mention that I also hooked but lost two fish that I think were big fish. Both of them were hooked but snapped the line before I could get them reeled in. That's my own fault because I am almost always fishing with the drag off and most of the time It doesn't cause me any problems, but every now and again, I lose a big fish because I'm not fast enough to release the drag.

Maybe tomorrow morning, I'll just fish the Stone for fun and see if I can catch some bass, maybe some fall fish, and maybe, just maybe a left over trout or two. It depends on the weather and how much rain we get between now and then. By the way the water temperature of the LJ in the section I fished this morning was 66 degrees, which I think is fairly high for this early in June. Of course that is the section of the LJ that probably gets the warmest every year.
