Notes

What a ridiculous day, but in a good way. Sometimes the planets align, everything is perfect, and catching fish is almost too easy. Today was one of those days.

The road into the reservoir is still closed until the end of May so I carried my float tube in. I was the only one on the reservoir for most of the day. A few people came in later just before I was getting ready to leave.

First, the weather was perfect. It was about 80F, sunny with just a few clouds, and just a slight breeze. Second, the water temperature was perfect, ranging between 55F in the morning to 58F by afternoon. Third, fish were rising like crazy. I never could tell what they were taking. The only thing I saw on the water were some tiny midges and midge casings. It didn't really matter though. The fish were flat out aggressive.

The fly didn't really seem to matter much. They hit everything I tried. The location didn't seem to matter much either. Fish were everywhere although I spent most of my day back in the sticks in 10' of water or less.

The only drawback is that most of the fish were pretty small, around 11" or so. The biggest ones I caught were only about 14". The reservoir had much bigger fish in it before they had to poison it. Nonetheless, 128 fish landed (there were many more that got off) in just 6.5 hrs of fishing is pretty damn amazing. I can't complain.

Derek

Why does it say my average size for rainbow trout is 0.01"?

Jason

That's what you get for catching 100+ fish. I penalize you. :)
