Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

It was a nice morning for fishing, which has been a rare occurence lately. The Stone and the LJ were both too high and muddy, but Spring Creek was at a good level for spin fishing, so off to Spring I went. I parked at the Benner Springs Hatchery and walked back into the SCI part of the stream. The big wooden no trespassing sign was down, so I thought I could use that as an excuse if anyone gave me shit about fishing on the Rockview part of the stream. I'm not sure if the sign was taken down by someone officially or whether some fishermen just decided to take it down. I fished for three hours before I was back above the former location of the no trespassing sign. I have fished in that area a few times before and have had good mornings fishing that section.

I had a fair morning this morning and managed to catch 12 trout, all browns. I caught two nice 15 inchers, two nice 14 inchers, five 11-12 inchers, and three 9-10 inch trout. However no matter how big or small they were, they were all nice looking, colorful, wild browns. No comparison to the stocked trout in the Stone. I got to the parking area at Benner about 7:30 and was the first one there this morning. I left about 11:30, after I ate my lunch and the parking area was packed. I didn't see anyone fishing as far downstream as I was fishing this morning. That's of course the main reason that I walked back that far. There were also some of the Rockview guys doing some work back by the bridge that the dirt road used to cross over Spring creek, but either they didn't see me or they weren't interested in giving me a hard time.

I was surprised to see that Spring was at a very fishable level this morning, but that's probably an indication that it will be very low again this summer. I guess I'll try and fish it before it gets too low to spin fish. Maybe tomorrow morning I'll just fish the Stone close to my house. This is the last night for picnic table building, so I can rest up tomorrow night.
