Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

I woke up yesterday morning, checked the water levels and the air temp. The LJ was a bit too high and fast for me, but Spring was at a good level for spin fishing. It actually had the water levels you used to see this time of year, but I figured it wouldn't last long, since it seems Spring really goes down quickly. The air temperature was below freezing, but all the weather guys said is was going to be a really nice day, so off I went. I parked at the fish school at the Paradise and walked back to the beginning of the fly-fishing only section and fished from there to above the old hatchery building. It took me about three hours.

The first three fish I caught, and I caught them within the first 14 minutes I fished, were three nice rainbow trout. That's a bit unusual, because I don't catch many rainbows on Spring. They were all at least 12 inches and nice looking fish. My hands became numb within about 30 minutes and it was a struggle to cast and it was a real struggle to unhook any fish I caught because my fingers weren't working all that well. By about 10:00 AM I was above the little foot bridge and in a sunny section of the stream and my hands started to thaw out. I caught 6 brown trout for a grand total of 9 trout. Every trout I caught this morning was at least a foot long and the biggest trout was a 15 inch brown beauty.

When I started walkind back from the parking lot this morning there were no other vehicles in the parking area, but by the time I got back to the parking area about 11:15 or so, it was beginning to look like Cornpropst Mills on opening day of trout season. I passed four or five fly-guys walking back to the parking area, but most of the guys were fishing right below the fish school. There must have been 20 people in that small section of the stream. Of course by that time it was really a nice day. Tomorrow is supposed to be really nice, so we may have record crowds on Standing Stone. The beginning of next week is supposed to be shitty, so I'm not going to fish again until the morning temperature is at least in the low 40's.
