Notes

Went with Rob Proudfoot for Friday and Saturday night. Fished hard with the 14 foot alluminum, strong wind most of the time. Rob caught a few on chronomids, I caught one or two. Others caught a ton - especially one guy we spoke to afterwards who fishes every day. He caught one 33 inches he claimed. Used tiny chronomids and even "blobs" under a float. Green micro leeches too. He was fishing at the top of the shoal to the left of the launch and most others were further around the north side of the little island. We trolled that side quite a bit and caught our biggest fish that way - me on a black bingo bug and Rob mostly on pumpkinheads. Cold the first evening, needed our orange flotation coats, sunny on Saturday, drizzly on Sunday with periods of rain. Ended up with 3 18 inchers each (one of mine was 18 1/2 inches) and a couple of 16 inchers each, released lots of 14 inch fish and smaller. Hard work for the fish but a fun couple of days. Most fish in about 8 feet of water. Rob broke both tips on his new Chinese rods within 10 minutes - one taking it out of the case and the other tying on a fly. Also dropped his forceps overboard when measuring depth. Boat has a nice slow leak so wet feet for Rob after a couple of hours each time. Met a guy at the launch who sells fly fishing equipment under the name "Jacobus Rods" out of his home in Logan Lake, went there on Sunday and bought a 5/6 rod, reel, and line for $180 off him. Nice stuff.
