Notes

After getting skunked on Oster Lake #1, I decided to try Riley Creek. I started at the fishery outlets that dump into the settling pond, and tried for a large rainbow I could see every now and then sitting off the edge of the current. I may have had a hit or two from that fish, but from the way I had to try nymphing directly downstream and in a weird side current, I never new if I had a hit or not.

I then fished the first main riffle after the settling pond. When I hooked the first carp, I was sure that I had foul-hooked a fish. Then after playing it gingerly on my 5 weight and getting it in closer, I saw that I had actually hooked it cleanly. I ended up landing 4 carp, lost 2 others when they snapped my line, and could have caught a bunch more if I wanted to stay and fish. The 4 I landed were a bunch of fun, though. One of them legitimately took my a ways into my backing.

I guessed at their size - my net is 26" long, and they were at least as long as my net. But more impressive than their length was their girth. I'd guess their weight at 8-10 pounds?

Freshwater bonefish. This is awesome.
