Notes

Returned to Nine Mile Beach in search of Australian Salmon but ended up catching a Yellowfin Bream instead. The weather was great but I got off to a very slow start. Tried using full Pilchards but was unsuccessful. Eventually cut them in half then quarters and eventually smaller pieces. It was the smallest pieces of bait that actually got the most attention. I had a lot of trouble with bait just falling off the line so I had to tie it down to keep it in place. The action picked up when dark cloud cover moved in. This was the point at which I landed the Yellowfin Bream. There was not much more action after that apart from a few nibbles that did not amount to anything else. One thing I did notice towards the end of the trip was that when using a full Pilchard, the fish targeted the tail of the bait. On my last few throws the bait kept coming up eaten at the tail. It was unfortunate that I had been hooking the bait through the eyes. Will have to try inserting the hook into the tails on the next trip and see how that works out. This wasn't the greatest catch in the world but it certainly felt good to get off the mark. This location is quite large and does not offer too many different variations to test so I will look to move to a different beach next time around.
