Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

I fished the LJ this morning from below the little twp. bridge near Huntingdon Furnace (Shenberger's Bridge) to above the first RR bridge above that little twp. bridge. I got to the stream about 7:00 AM and was surprised to see a guy just packing up his gear and leaving. I didn't get a chance to talk to him, but he had to be fishing in the dark, and I would guess he was spin fishing live bait. The first two hours I fished, I only caught 5 trout, but one was the biggest fish of the morning at 17 inches. The smallest trout I caught this morning was 10 inches, but the one smallmouth bass that I caught was about 9 inches. I caught a grand total of 18 fish, 17 trout, and 1 smallmouth. I caught 13 fish in the last hour that I fished. I caught all 13 of them above the first RR bridge. I don't fish in that area much because when the water is a bit higher it's tough to wade around that bridge. It has a couple of deep spots and most of the time I don't bother to try and wade through them. There are a number of nice springs right above that bridge, so I'm sure that had something to do with my results. I think, maybe, just maybe the guy who left when I got there had fished some of the good spots around the little bridge and that may have affected my results for the first two hours of fishing, but that's just a guess on my part.

The LJ was low, slow, and crystal clear, but then that has been the case for the last six weeks or more. The water temperature was 58 degrees, so it's cooling off and is at a good temperature for the trout. I did manage to slip and slid into the water this morning, but it happened after I was done fishing when I was walking back the stream to the head of the trail that I usually use to walk back to my truck. The water temperature may be good for trout, but it was a little cool for old codgers.
