Notes

Fished from cliff hole about 1/2 river mile above Laird Park swimming area through fishing area. No luck! Water was high, a grayish stained color, but not muddy at all. Water has been dropping for a couple weeks. No sign of fish anywhere - no rises, couldn't see them in deep holes. Where are they?

Tried dry/dropper, streamer/trailer, nymph/trailer, and dry/trailer setups of basic flies, to no avail. Very prolific bug activity throughout the day...especially BWOs, skwala stoneflies, and unidentified large dun mayflies.

I've fished that section of deep water a couple of times with worms before I started fly fishing, and I got lots of nibbles, so I know there's lots of little fish in there, at least at some times, but I didn't get a good look at any of them. Have you had any luck fishing elsewhere on the Palouse river? I've been trying to find good fly fishing waters near Moscow, but with no luck, aside from the murky Spring Valley and Moose Creek.
