Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

I fished the very bottom section of the LJ this morning. I went below Petersburg, parked at the #305 bridge and then walked to the point where the LJ and the Frankstown Branch meet. I hadn't fished that far down on the LJ for at least two, maybe three years. Now I remember why! From to mouth to the old RR bridge I only caught one fish, one smallmouth bass. Around the RR bridge I started to pick up a couple of fish and caught the biggest one of the morning. It was the third fish I caught this morning, a nice big 15 inch brown trout. I fished until I was at the second big flat area above the 305 bridge. It took me about three hours to get to that point, even though I didn't have to stop much to release fish. I only caught 12 fish and they were evenly split between smallmouth bass and brown trout. The bass were almost all identical and were in the 8-10 inch range. I only caught 6 trout, but they were almost all nice trout. The big 15 incher I mentioned before, a 14 incher, two that were in the 12-13 inch range and two that were 10-12 inches. Nice trout, just not very many of them.

The water temperature was 68 degrees, but then I expected it to be rather high in that section of the LJ. It's the section with the most water in it, which is good this time of the year, but it's also one of the warmest sections, which isn't so good. I didn't catch any Fall Fish, Rock Bass, or Blue Gills. I normally catch at least a couple of Fall Fish and a Rock Bass or two in this section. I don't know where they were hiding this morning.

I think Diane and I are going with Sam and Bonnie Ryder tomorrow morning to have breakfast at the Belleville auction and to pick up some fresh home grown produce. I'll probably fish Thursday morning and maybe even Friday, depends how energetic I feel.
