Notes
Water was perfect. USGS called the flow ICE but the gauge ht was 1.65 (future reference). It was the usual mid-winter on the Malad. Eager, fast strikes from a variety of sized fish. Unfortunately, only landed one but lost 6-10 - some missed strikes, some shake-offs. It's difficult to land an aggressive 14in trout on a #20 EHC! As usual, tiny and light colored flies got all the attetion. Tried nymphing but no luck. Usually better down below the small bridge and I tried pretty late in the day.
Used the 3 wt but it was REAL windy down the gorge and made for difficult presentation. The weather was a warm spell and sunny. No snow anywhere on the river or surrounds.
Need to try farther upriver - approach from opposite bank cuz too brushy on the usual side.
