Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

I finally got to fish for a few hours this morning. Diane and I spent the last two days helpiing my sisters get my Dad's house ready to sell. It was a lot of work and by the time we got home last night we were beat, but I decided to go fishing this morning to relax and unwind.

I fished the LJ in the posted section below the Greer school. The guys who I have met helping the LJRA clean up and stock the LJ have told me that no one bothers them when they fish that section. The story is that someone, maybe Donny Beaver, posted the land and closed the access road, but when the RR people came to inspect their bridge the road was closed and they were pissed. They tore out the gates and theatened legal action, but the owner of the land claimed he didn't post it and didn't know who did post it. That's the story, whether it's true or not, who knows!

I parked my truck at the end of that access road close to the second RR bridge in that section, then walked back the road and started below the first RR bridge. It took me about three hours to fish back to above the second RR bridge. I had a good morning and caught 21 fish in that three hours. Notice, I said 21 fish, not 21 trout. I caught 4 smallmouth bass, 2 around the first RR bridge and 2 around the second RR bridge. I think that's the most smallmouth bass I have ever caught in one morning on the LJ. Two of the four were nice 12 inch bass and the other two were around 10 inches, but all four of them were fiesty. I also caught a nice 10 inch rock bass around the lower RR bridge. I can fish the LJ for weeks and not catch any bass, so it may have something to do with where I was fishing this morning. I also caught 16 brown trout, the biggest was a nice 14 incher, and most of the rest were 9-11 inches.

I had the section to myself for the first three hours, but when I got back to the truck there were two fly-guys who had parked out along 453 and walked back into that section. The access road is fairly rough, but the Ranger has a lot of ground clearance, and also skid plates, so it wasn't a problem for me. I was going to fish tomorrow morning, but now I have to attend to some church business, so I guess I won't get out again until next week.
