Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

I fished the PSU section of Spruce for about two hours this morning. It was high, fast, and cloudy, but the LJ was higher and faster, so I didn't mind fishing Spruce. I got to the stream about 7:00 and there wasn't anyone else there. When I left about 10:00 there was one other vehicle in the parking area, but I never saw anyone else on the stream.

I was a little surprised because it was a cast and clean day on Spruce. Almost every cast I made I had to clean the spinner because the stream was full of some green slimey crap. Yesterday, Spring was about as clean as I ever see it and I was thinking Spruce would be fine this morning, but I was wrong. Normally, I don't have a lot of trouble with junk getting on my spinner when I'm fishing Spruce, but that wasn't the case this morning. I caught one rainbow trout, and it was the biggest fish of the morning at a whopping 12 inches. I caught 14 brown trout and most of them were 8-9 inch trout.

On my last cast of the morning, I hooked a big Donny Beaver trout, but before I could get him in, my line snapped and I lost the nicest trout of the morning. I would guess that it was an 18-20 inch trout and it looked like a big brown. It was probably due to several factors. One, I didn't retie my spinner and had already caught 15 trout on it, just a bit lazy I guess. Two, I always fish with my drag all the way off, because I think it helps me set the hook and keeps me from losing a lot of fish. Three, the current was strong and the big boy got into a fast section and it was just too much for my line. Oh, well, I'll get him some other day. I didn't catch any fish, big or small, in my two favorite holes on Spruce this morning, I don't know why, but that doesn't happen often either.

Tomorrow morning, I'm going to help stock fingerlings on the LJ, so I don't think I'll do any fishing. They said it would take about three hours and by that time I'll be ready to head home for lunch.

Have a great weekend: LJH!
