Notes
This was a springtime trip to Locomotive Springs for which I recorded a bit of data in my early fishing notebook. Along with the rudimentary catch data, I made a footnote that reads, "First fish caught at 1900, second at 2300, after dark." I remember I started fishing at dusk and caught one small fish right away, but then there was nothing for a long time. I had no idea how to fish nymphs in stillwater, so I think I just moved from place to place trying every dry fly I had. When it got dark I had still caught just the one small fish. The moon was either already up or came up soon after sundown, so I positioned the stillwater between the moon and me so that I could cast onto its reflection and see the line and my fly. Finally, around 2300, I got a strike and pulled in a second (small) fish. When I got back to camp, everyone was in their tents.
