Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

The LJ was too high for me again this morning, so I decided on Spring creek. I got to the Benner Springs parking area about 7:00 AM and there were already two vehicles parked there. I walked downstream for 30 minutes and then fished back toward Benner Springs for about three hours. I never saw anybody fishing when I walked in to start fishing, but I was concentrating on getting downstream to fish, so I may just have missed them. About 9:30 I ran into a hole hopping fly-guy who was working his way downstream and after we passed each other my trout count started dropping off. There was also a hatch starting to come off about 10:00, so maybe that had an effect on my results.

I had a good morning and caught 25 trout, all brown trout, which is usually the case when I fish Spring. The only time I can remember catching many rainbow trout in Spring was after the hatchery flooded out a couple of years ago. I caught two nice 14 inch trout and maybe six or seven that were only 7 or 8 inches. I also caught a lot of nice trout that were 10-12 inches long. I didn't fish the entire way back to the parking area because I had already fished for three hours and was tired out wading against the current and I started to run into a lot of fly-guys. I counted 7 guys that I could see downstream from the parking area. Of all the places I fish on Spring, I think the Benner Springs section gets the most pressure of any section. There are also a lot of guys that fish close to the school at the Paradise, but since I can't fish that section, I don't care much about it.

I think I'll head over to Spruce creek and help stock the LJ on Friday morning. I don't usually fish on Fridays and the LJ will probably still be too high and fast for me by Friday. Spring was a bit high and fast this morning, but at least then I don't have to clean the crap off my spinner after every cast. That is the one advantage of fishing Spring early in the year when it's current and flow is high.
