Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

I was thinking about fishing Laurel Run this morning, but then I thought since this is the only morning I'm going to fish this week, I might as well fish a stream that actually has some trout in it, so off to Spring creek I went. I really would rather fish for wild trout instead of those dull stocked trout. I checked out the LJ and it was too high and fast for me, but even though it was a bit higher than I like it to be, Spring was fishable. I missed more fish than I usually do this morning, but I think I'll blame the high volume and fast current for my misses. I drove below the Paradise and parked in the last parking area before you hit the road to Bellefonte. I fished from above that bridge up to the handicapped fishing platform. I was surprised because I fished that entire section, for three hours and didn't have to share it with anyone else. When I got to the parking area at the handicapped platform, there were a couple of vehicles and some fly-guys just getting into their gear. That was about 10:30.

I had a fairly good morning and caught 19 trout, all browns. I caught 2 nice 14 inch trout and most of the rest were 10-12 inch trout. I did catch 3 or 4 small ones between 6-8 inches. The water was high enought that I could run my spinner in a lot of places that I won't be able to fish later in the year. Another nice thing this morning was that I didn't have to clean my spinner after every cast. I guess the high volume and velocity has cleaned some of the crap out of the creek and it hasn't had time to grow back yet.

I drove back to the Paradise and ate my lunch in the nice picnic area at the fish school. There were a lot of vehicles parked there, but there wasn't one fisherman fishing in that section in front of the school. I guess they had all migrated upstream or something. Then again, some of the cars could have been hikers, dog walkers, bikers and other assorted out doors types of people, who knows??
