Notes
MCB, TMM, BD:
I broke my no fishing on Fridays or Mondays rule this morning, and I should have stayed home. I fished the loop section of the LJ starting below the RR bridge at the old yellow house and fished to above the next RR bridge, but I didn't fish much of the middle section.
I started out at about 7:15 and no one else was around. I caught a 12, then a 13, then a 14 inch fish for the first three fish of the morning. At that point I was above the first RR bridge. I usually catch 6 or 8 trout below that bridge, but at least the three I caught were three nice trout. I was fishing above the bridge when another spin guy appeared. He walked upstream from me and started fishing. He was moving upstream at least as fast as I was moving, so I ended up fishing water he had just finished fishing. I thought that was a waste of time and I didn't want to play leap frog with him, so I just got out and walked up the bank until I was at the big rapids below the second RR bridge. I thought that if no one else showed up I could spend a couple of hours fishing up through that section. About 9:15 or so a big hatch of some kind started coming off. There were bugs everywhere in the air and on the water. About that time, the fish stopped chasing my spinner. I looked up toward the RR bridge and in about 15 or 20 minutes it was over run with fly-guys. I have honestly never seen so many fly-guys appear in such a short time and so early in the morning. I fished for a few more minutes and then decided that it wasn't worth the hassle to walk around all the fly-guys, so I walked back to the truck and came home.
I only managed to catch six trout, which is one of the lowest totals that I have had on the LJ for a long time. Not only that, but as I was coming home and driving through Donation, I managed to over look the State Cop and his radar gun. I know they often are sitting in Donation and most of the time I look for them, but I wasn't paying attention this morning and of course I was speeding. He stopped me, wrote me up and so I figure each of my six trout cost me about $25. I shouldn't have gone fishing on a Friday. I guess I really can't complain because of course I was speeding and he was just doing his job. I haven't had a ticket for about 10 years, so I guess I was overdue. Guess I have to be a bit more careful going through Donation.

PS: A big hatch doesn't usually do much for spin fishing success, but it is neat to watch the trout rise and collect the bug. It's just amazing how many trout are actually in the LJ, I mean there were trout rising every where this morning.
