Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

I didn't believe the weather man this morning and thought it would warm up, so I drove to Spring creek and fished it for almost three hours. I fished the Rock Road section. I parked at the old metal hacthery bridge, walked downstream to right above the hatchery and fished back to my truck. I spent most of the morning doing the old Spring Creek two step, cast and clean, cast, and clean. I figured that this early in the Spring and with the water fairly high, I could avoid a lot of the green scum, but I was wrong. The water level was close to 4 feet on the Houserville gauge and that's usually a good depth and velocity for spin fishing on Spring.

I caught 18 brownies, which isn't a bad morning for me, but the biggest ones I caught were a couple of 12 inch trout. I also caught 4 or 5 mini-trout that were about 5-6 inches long. I guess that proves that Spring has natural reproduction going for it. All of the trout I caught this morning were wild trout and all of them were nicely colored, particulary if you compare them to the trout I caught last week on the DHALO section of the LJ.

They are forecasting a nice day for Wednesday, so I may skip tomorrow and fish the LJ on Wednesday. I think I can probably fish the Greer School section of the LJ even though it's still high and fast. That section is often too shallow in the summer and fall for good spin fishing, so I should be able to wade around in it a bit even now.

Thursday morning we are heading for Oil City to see Williams's Spring Band Fest or something like that, so that takes care of fishing until next week.

PS: The weather man was correct, it never got sunny, and the temperature never went up very much this morning. The water temperature was higher than the air temperature. My hands got a big cold, but it wasn't enough to make me quit fishing and go home.
