Notes
I walked back to the NW corner that I fished last week and did not see as many cruising fish in the corner. I started by rigging up with 3 flies and a splitshot – hare’s ear, scud, and brassie – and on my first cast I had a nice fish on quickly after I started a slow retrieve. The fish got off after a bit and took all 3 flies thanks to a broken knot on the hare’s ear. I re-rigged with the same flies and had a smaller one on after many more casts but he got off as well. In both cases I was letting the flies sink for 20 seconds or so before starting a slow retrieve.
I moved SE to the next point and saw a couple cruising trout in the shallow bay between the two points. I had a second very nice fish on after many casts but he quickly got off. More casts netted nothing. I moved NW back to the far bay and saw a few cruising trout. I made a cast to one that was a couple feet off shore and began retrieving and he hit it but I didn’t keep him on. He was smaller to medium size.
As it was getting dark I tried the Bristle Leech with no success and an olive woolly bugger with no success.
The water is getting thicker/greener as algae is starting to grow and limit visibility somewhat.
Hatch: small black midges, a few #20 brown-thorax/yellow body mayflies?
