Notes
Hurricane Earl was blowing along the east coast so we headed out early. Caught 2 small fish at the bottom of the first rapid set. Floated down and hit a few nice fish on transition points from deep to shallow water. Largest fish broke off; caught on a weedbed next to a deep pool. Most of my fish came on casts to deep pools along the bends in the river. When the water was flowing slow to medium I was catching fish on 1/8 oz watermelon pepper colored spider jigs. When the water sped up, Marty began catching more fish on a 1/4 oz jig rigged with a green black speckled jig. Largest fish were caught toward the end of the drift along the left shore line toward the end. At the end of the drift we saw a large weedbed at the base of the launch, . We passed over and saw a HUGE school of shad with trophy smallies swimming along the bottom. I switched over to a watermelon fleck senko and had lost a fish dragging over the top. Made a cast to a back pocket where I had seen a fish jump. As soon as it hit bottom got a hit and nailed a nice smallie. Also had luck along the slack deep pools with a walk the dog yellow and white zaro spook imitator.
