AWESOME! MFS lives up to it's rep as a Mecca.
The day was gorgeous, high 70's, mid 80's. Parked at the drop-off, MFS trailhead starts there. The trail is deceptively long, you'd expect it'd hook-up with the river rather quickly but nope. Probably could have parked at the landing and hiked, but, first-timer. Goal was to go down and fish back upstream. Hiked ~2.5 miles, reached the river at Sulfur Creek. Dropped off trail ~1/2 mile down. Rock-hopped the bank. Water was crystal, gin clear - light green tint.
Fishing was hot and fast. Took Trout Lie advice, threw big and buggy. Hit the brookies - very aggressive, the big cuts rose slowly and gently took the flies. Hopped deeper runs back upstream to Sulfur Creek.
Saw ~ 3 gruops of rafters, they seemed pretty surprised to see me that far down. Forgot my net, didn't bring boots or waders either - had occasional probs with backcasts and lost a few flies. Also, gobs of blackflies and horseflies - definitely need the bug-spray!
This will become a yearly trip!
