Notes
I spent the morning walking around the lake spotting fish cruising close to shore and casting a single nymph to them. I worked on my no-retrieve method where I would let the fly sink in front of a trout until they took it. On a few occasions I had trout curiously watch the fly sink before rushing over to it as it was about to hit the bottom – like they had to wait for it to get close to the bottom to prove it was a real, dead, sinking nymph. And even a couple times I had the fish come over and nab the fly just after it hit the bottom. All of this work of course required minimal wind in order to spot and cast to the fish, and to watch the fly sink - a very effective technique during low to no-wind periods.
