Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

I thought about trying Spring Creek this morning, but after checking the water levels, I figured it just wasn't worth a drive to State College, because Spring is really low. So, it was off to fish the LJ yet again. I fished the section right below the Greer School between the two RR bridges. I took that rough, and I mean rough, access road that leads to that section and parked at the end of it, close to the second RR bridge. I then walked back to below the first RR bridge and fished up until I was past the second RR bridge. The further upstream you go on the LJ, the less water there is, which of course makes sense. The LJ was low, slow, and crystal clear, just like it was on Tuesday morning. The water temperature was 58 degrees, the same as Tuesday.

I caught 16 fish, but it was a variety this morning. I caught 2 rock bass, 5 smallmouth bass, and 9 brown trout. The biggest fish I caught this morning were a couple of browns that were a foot long. The smallest fish were two mini-smallmouth bass that were only about 5 inches long. The smallest trout I caught was a 10 inch trout. I guess the trout have had a good summer for growing and it seems most of the ones I catch now are in the 10-12 inch range. The little bass indicate that the smallmouth bass are maintaining a breeding population, unlike the brown trout. At least people tell me that there is very little natural repopulation of trout on the LJ. I'm not sure why, but that's what I have been told by a number of different people. I probably caught a few more bass than normal because I fished below and above two RR bridges and that's the sections that I usually catch a few bass in.
