Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

I drove up to Spring creek and walked way back in above the Paradise. I walked back to the last section before the prison land and fished there. There were a couple of fly-guys fishing the no wading section when I got there this morning and also when I left about 11:15 or so. There really wasn't many guys fishing this morning and maybe that's because Spring is really low, slow, and crystal clear. The water temperature was 63 degrees which isn't bad considering it's August and there was very little water in the creek.

I only managed to catch 6 brown trout. The smallest was 9 inches and the the biggest was 13 inches. I had a lot of follows, but very few hits. I only missed 3 or 4 trout, they just weren't interested in the spinner this morning.

Not much of a fishing day, but I got a lot of exercise walking in and back out from fishing this morning. A jogger told me that it's about 1.5 miles from the parking lot to where I was fishing, so I walked at least 3.0 miles this morning. It was also a good morning for wildlife. I was a number of deer which is about par for the course when I walk above the Paradise. I also saw a big, dead, turkey, that had been picked almost clean. I can't ever remember seeing a dead turkey except maybe as road kill and then it's rare. I don't know what got this turkey, but it was a full grown turkey and something must have killed it. At one of the old hatchery ponds, which didn't have any water in them this morning unless you want to count the big puddle in one of them, I saw at least 8 or 10 herons all around the big puddle. I don't usually see herons with other herons, they mostly seem to be solitary birds. I also saw two big snappers that appeared to be mateing, or at least that's what it looked like they were doing. The one was climbing on top of the other, so who knows! Right after I started fishing I saw a family of raccoons around one of the holes. Maybe the water was so low that the coons were trout fishing. Normally, I don't see them in the daylight. Diane topped me this morning because she saw a bear cross Stone Creek Ridge Road right around Hoffmasters when she left to fish at Whipple's this morning. She caught three fish, one rock bass, and two sunfish!

I think I'll stay home tomorrow morning and finish splitting some wood that I got from one of my neighbors. Maybe I'll try the section of the LJ below Petersburg on Thursday morning.
